imo, Oath Shot and Crip Shot are probably the most underrated, not especially the "Best" anti-melee shutdowns. Inep and Clums are very good, but used against any experienced team, the mesmer finds that his/her emanagement lacks. Traps and degen are great because of the pressure they apply constantly instead of a spike, and crip is very difficult for a monk to get rid of unless draw is used.

I reallly dont like Oath SHot any more. Okay, it has a good theoretical use, to recharge all your skills, but when your playing as a trapper, it has a massive downside. Most trappers (as far as im aware) use a insightfull staff, myself i use a W's Faith, which gives them far more energy. As you need oath Shot AFTER youve used all your traps, your going to be low on energy. Then when you swap to your bow, you dont have enough energy to Oath, and have to wait for ages for it to recharge. Of cource you could buy a +5 energy bow, but (and correct me if im wrong) there expencive, and running a different elite would seem much better to me, ie Trappers Focus (as you have no other preparation) or Spike Trap for extra damage with SQ to reduce down time. Ive found that if you cycle through traps, thhat you never have to wait as long as you would with Oath Shot.

Back on subject of Anti-Warrior, i dont think traps are that visable option. You can lay Dust Traps or Spike/Barbed/Snare and hope they walk into it, but the conditions are easily removed. Also, trappers tend to get targeted, and its nigh-impossible to set a trap with a frenzy-warrior hitting you (without trappers focus). As such, i would say traps aren't a good anti-warrior, as you cant use them if a war is attacking you, whihc would seem to defy the point of anti-war.

umm, first i guess you don't pvp that often cause trapping isn't a guessing game. Your monk should know exactly where all traps are to walk warriors into them. Secondly, you can make a pvp character with a +5 energy bow, and thats what I use and have never ran into energy issues unless im getting e-denied. Oath shot is by far the best tool for a trapper, and trapper's focus is overkill since whirling usually does just as good, and if your traps fail, O well you got oath shot to recharge instantly. An added plus to a trapper is that if a warrior is all over you, who gives a shit, at least hes not on the monk. and i guess to your point of easily removed conditions, i hope you lay barbed and dust on the same spot...ie about 21 energy for a boony to remove three conditions...traps are a ton of pressure, idk who told you that a monk has an easy time with traps.

Almost unlimited whirling generally takes care of interrupts (unless you have 2-3 guys on you).

+5e bows are free at the PvP creation screen.

Your team should know how to kite into traps, and you should be giving them an idea of where those traps are.

QFT. hi deleted glad to see more people on guru

personally i used to be a big fan of inept/clums but imo i feel it sucks for some reason... not enough damage/pressure. and if you run into a team with no r/w/a then you're basically down a character, 3v4.

Well, inept/clums mesmers are also pretty decent at spreading a bit of degen over the other team. Also, clumsiness/inept are so great at discouraging frenzy, since if you attack through inept with frenzy on... ouch.

Yeah, it feels that way, but at the same time if you run into a team with no W/R/A then you have to ask yourself where is their damage? The answer is usually that they have none. Spread images of remorse to as many players as possible against this type of team and watch for casters wanding. Also, it is a good idea to bring either conjure phantasm OR arcane conundrum on the ineptitude bar so that you will be less useless against those rare teams with no W/R/A that are actually good.

a nice strategy vs. frenzy is just to spam your debilitating hexes (faint, sof, pof, etc.) and the second you see frenzy, toss out ineptitude and clumsiness. most wars will swing through ineptitude for a nice 280 dmg spike. and that bit of degen isn't really doing much... unless you have persistence, you're only spreading -4 to 2 members of their team at a time.

the teams i'm talking about are the 3-mes, 1-mo team. i've only faced them when playing the monk, so i'm usually busy trying to un-shut myself down and don't pay enough attention to the straight damage. you're probably right, they don't have any consistent high dps besides degen and the occasional power spike.

images of remorse, by itself, is a very weak spell imo... only 10ish seconds of 4 degen :\ but when you run into a team with no melee/ranged attackers, that's all you can do. i feel there are better choices, i.e. oathshot trapper, flash e/mo, cripshot, curse spamming necro, etc.

Atleast two ideas.
One: Deadly Riposte, Riposte, and Auspicious Parry. I use this with my warrior to tick off foes in pvp combat. They work best with warriors, because you can get runes for tactics.

Two: your choice of lead attack (nonelite), Temple Strike, and your choice of dual attack (again, nonelite). Temple strike both blinds and dazes the target, so if your foe likes using things like orison of healing or aftershock, good choice.

I believe the forum is technically for both, but this thread is for anti-melee characters in a team setting and hence this thread's focus is TA.

This is not an anti-melee character, because it does not in any way help protect your team from melee characters. Enjoy doing no damage and being the last on your team to die after your three teammates have been pummeled? When I do play a warrior in RA, I can always identify an opposing warrior with a build like this because they stick on you long after the short adrenaline building phase. I plant them on the ground with shock and move on.

The Ineptitude build I use is

Ineptitude
Conjure Phantasm
Images of Remorse
Accumulated Pain
Spirit of Failure
Distortion
Drain Enchantment
Res Sig

Getting deep wound in there accelerates the degen. This can take down a warrior pretty quick, drain enchant for that awesome mending :P
